Pocock impressed by Klien

Jaguar's Dr Ian Pocock has praised new signing Christian Klien and is impressed by the Austrian's ability to learn quickly. Klien tested for Jaguar when work returned to the track after the break since Suzuka, and was consequently signed up to partner Mark Webber next season.

"What really impressed me was the speed in which Christian was able to learn the nuances of a new car," said Pocock, Jaguar's director of engineering, at a team media function in London.

"At his first test we went through the different buttons on the steering wheel with him in the garage, explaining which one did what, and his ability to grasp those different functions immediately impressed all of us."

For Klien, who was runner up in German F3 in 2003, this winter was his first test behind the wheel of a Formula One car but the 20 year-old didn't waste any time.

"It's not easy during your first test, not only to drive quickly and keep the car on the circuit, but also to be able to respond to commands from the pit wall," said Pocock.

"The ability to think 'okay, the pit's talking to me, I'll press this button and tell them what they need to know' speaks volumes for his maturity. Antonio and Justin were good but Christian's learning curve and bandwith are extremely impressive."
