INDIANAPOLIS, Wednesday, June 8, 2005 - The United States Grand Prix Pit Walkabout on Thursday, June 16 will offer more fan-friendly features than ever this year, getting fans geared up for the annual Formula One race weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The Pit Walkabout officially kicks off the United States Grand Prix weekend at IMS, as it serves as a prelude to practice Friday, June 17, practice and qualifying Saturday, June 18 and the race Sunday, June 19.

Public gates open at 7:30 a.m. (local time) June 16. A Race Day ticket is required to participate in the Pit Walkabout, which takes place from 8 a.m.-noon on pit lane.

Once on pit lane, fans can stand adjacent to the open garages, providing a clear view of the sleek cars, high-tech equipment and skilled personnel of all 10 Formula One teams, including standouts Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro, Mild Seven Renault, BMW WilliamsF1 Team, Lucky Strike BAR Honda and West McLaren Mercedes.

The Menards Infiniti Pro Series' paddock also will be open during the Pit Walkabout, so fans can get close to the cars of the IndyCar® Series' primary ladder series, which will race on the road circuit at the Speedway during the USGP weekend.

A variety of other USGP-related activities also will take place from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Pagoda Plaza at IMS.

The highlight will be a press conference with seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher presented by Bridgestone/Firestone, which starts at 9:30 a.m. on the stage at the edge of the Pagoda Plaza. Hiroshi Yasukawa, Bridgestone Corporation's director of motorsport, also will participate in the press conference, with Speed Channel Formula One host Bob Varsha serving as the host.

A question-and-answer session with the Speed Channel Formula One broadcast team - Varsha, Derek Daly, David Hobbs, Steve Matchett and Peter Windsor - will follow at 10:45 a.m. on stage. Former Speed F1 analyst and Indianapolis 500 veteran Sam Posey also will participate on the Speed panel.

Various Formula One personalities, including top drivers, will appear on stage after the Speed presentation until mid-afternoon. Autograph sessions with selected F1 drivers and personalities, and Menards Infiniti Pro Series' drivers also are scheduled from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and 2-3:30 p.m. in the Plaza.

Among the drivers and personalities who will take part in the question-and-answer and autograph sessions are 1978 World Champion and 1969 Indianapolis 500 winner Mario Andretti, Menards Infiniti Pro Series race winner Marco Andretti and Red Bull Racing third driver Scott Speed, who will participate in the Formula One Friday practice sessions at the United States Grand Prix to become the first American driver to take part in a Grand Prix weekend since 1993.
