After four years of a successful partnership with BMW WilliamF1 Team, Petrobras is amplifying its activities in F1. The Brazilian oil-producer, gasoline supplier and one of the accountable for the development of Frank Williams team, will also be a lubricant supplier for Jordan-Honda. The contract goes till the end of 2002. Petrobras will develop, test and produce about 15 thousand litres of Lubrax oil for motors and one thousand litres of Lubrax oil for transmission.
"I'm very satisfied to establish this partnership with Petrobras and use Lubrax products on the Jordan-Honda EJ 11. In the fight to win the F1 races and conquer the world title, every detail has to be analysed. Our researches with the Petrobras oil are already showing positive for our performance", comments Eddie Jordan, chief of the English team.
"The consolidation of the partnership between Petrobras and Jordan - Honda opens the period of tests for the development of the product", says Carlos Leonam, coordinator of Petrobras especial projects, reminding that the lubricants still don't have a date to start being used.
Initially the Brazilian firm was looked for by Jordan-Honda, amongst many other teams, because of the gasoline, recognised as one of the best in F1. The agreement ended up being done with Eddie Jordan for the supply of oil.
The Jordan-Honda lubricants will be developed by the same team that is responsible for the Lubrax commercial products. The starting line for the production of the F1 oil was the technological convention with the F-3000 Petrobras Junior Team.
"Because of the F-3000 we didn't come out of no where. Even though the F1 motor has almost double of the power of F-3000 ( 800 hp against 450 hp), the partnership with the Petrobras Junior Team gave us the necessary knowledge to produce high performance lubricants", affirms Marco Antonio Almeida, responsible for the development of the lubricants. "The technology applied to the F1 product
may be used in the commercial oils, adapting it. This has happened in F3", continues Almeida.
The Petrobras technical coordinator, Maria Adelina Santos Araujo, will be at the F1 races. The Lubrax mark will be displayed on the rear-view mirror of the Jordan's EJ 11 yellow cars.
JORDAN - The team Jordan-Honda is known in the F1 circus as the "rock'n'roll team": they know how to have fun as much as being serious. Founded in 1991 by the Irish Eddie Jordan, the team conquered an expressive mark of three victories, six first rows and eleven podiums in the last three years. In 1998, broke the Williams, McLaren, Benetton and Ferrari's superiority that had being going on since 1989, and ended the season in fourth place. In 2000, Jordan was the only team to share with Ferrari and McLaren the first row.
"We are an emerging force in F1. Our objective is to win the world title without forgetting to have fun along the way", says Eddie Jordan.
