Following a heavy crash in practice prior to Saturday qualifying for the French Grand Prix, Jordan's Giancarlo Fisichella had to withdraw from the qualifying session on medical advice. Subsequently he will also miss the race, due to concussion and the Italian so far cannot remember the crash at all.

Jordan applied to the Stewards of the Meeting to substitute Heinz-Harald Frentzen for Fisichella for the race and the Stewards duly deemed it acceptable -- providing no contractual difficulties were encountered and all teams agreed.

Previously a Jordan driver, Frentzen is now with the problematic Arrows team and hasn't been able to be on track much this weekend due to the ongoing investor problems Arrows are currently experiencing. However, the German was unable to take up the offer of a one-off drive for Jordan. The DHL Jordan team released this statement today:

"The Stewards of the Meeting yesterday evening granted permission for DHL Jordan Honda to substitute Heinz-Harald Frentzen as the driver of car 9, however in spite of the best efforts of all parties, potential legal technicalities not involving Jordan Grand Prix meant that Heinz-Harald Frentzen was unable to accept the offer."
