Cristiano da Matta will race in front of his home crowd this weekend in Brazil and now he doesn't have to climb over the fences to get in. The F1 rookie makes his debut at Interlagos with Toyota but remembers his father racing there and having to sneak into the paddock to get a good look at the cars.

"To go watch the Formula One, you still had to climb over the fences," he told Reuters. "In 1993, my father was racing at Interlagos, but we didn't have access to the paddock. We reckoned that we really had to go to see the paddock and the cars up close, so we found a way to sneak in."

Da Matta junior last raced at the circuit in 1994 and is not sure that experience will help him. However, Toyota did well in Brazil last year and he is optimistic and knows the track.

"We still do not have enough experience of some circuits to say what is good and what is not good for our car and Interlagos is unique so there is no circuit in Europe where we can go and test which is similar to it," he said.

"The only thing we have is that the team ran very well there last year. I am not sure having raced there nine years ago is going to help me much, but it is still a lot better than not knowing the circuit."
