Saturday’s qualifying session was cancelled due to rain that fell on the 3.4-mile New York road course.
Watkins Glen, NY – Michael Shank Racing will start the Sahlen’s 6 Hours of the Glen from ninth (No. 6) and 14th (No. 60) on the grid after Saturday’s qualifying session was cancelled due to rain that fell on the 3.4-mile New York road course just prior to the start of Daytona Prototype qualifying. Per GRAND-AM rules, qualifying was turned into a practice session and the grid was set by the driver championship point order.
The No. 60 Ford-Riley is shared by Ozz Negri and John Pew and the No. 6 is driven by Gustavo Yacaman who is joined by Justin Wilson this weekend. The weekend had seen various weather conditions with most of Friday’s practice taking place on a wet track. The group worked to make improvements to both of its Daytona Prototype machines through each session and after sitting atop the time chart in the morning practice, were hopeful for two strong starting spots for the six-hour race.
“I know that the rules are that we can’t qualify in the rain, but I wish we would have been able to go out there to see where we stacked up,” said team owner Mike Shank.
“But I’m happy with how we’ve improved both cars this weekend and we know we have two strong race cars for tomorrow’s race. Hopefully we have good weather and can put on a great show tomorrow. The MSR guys have worked very hard over the past few weeks on these racecars and hopefully we can come out of the weekend with two strong finishes."
