Two safety car periods have been needed before the 25 lap mark.
The 2014 edition of the Hungarian Grand Prix has gotten off to a rocky and wild start. On the opening lap, after starting from the pit lane, Lewis Hamilton spun in wet conditions.
Caterham's Marcus Ericsson crashed after just ten laps in the fourth corner. He hit the barrier head-on, but was able to exit the wreckage under his own power. Under caution, Romain Grosjean crashed out of the race as well!
There were varying strategies with Jenson Button (intermediates) and Daniel Ricciardo (dry weather tires) taking control of the race. As Ricciardo led the way, Force India teammates collided with Nico Hulkenberg knocked out of the race. That ends his streak of scoring points in every Grand Prix this year.
On lap 24, Sergio Perez got up on the curb out of the final corner, losing control. He slid across the track, slamming the pit wall and making it a double-retirement for the Force India team. Soon afterwards, Caterham lost its other car with Kobayashi exiting the GP.
On lap 34, Esteban Gutierrez retired as Sebastian Vettel spun on the front stretch, making slight contact with the pit wall. Fernando Alonso leads at Lap 35 with six cars already out of the race.
