Japanese GT and Formula Nippon champion Satoshi Motoyama will take the wheel of the R23B this week at Jerez in recognition of his excellent performances this season.

During this week's test at Jerez, a new driver will take the wheel of Renault's F1 car: Satoshi Motoyama. As well as winning this year's Formula Nippon series, the 32 year-old Japanese driver took a hard-fought victory in the Japanese GT Championship, at the wheel of a Nissan Skyline GT-R. In the context of an ever-growing synergy between Renault and its sister company Nissan, he will have the opportunity to conduct a full day's running during this week's Jerez test.

"This is a wonderful opportunity," commented Motoyama. "I have had a fantastic year, and the F1 test is the perfect way to round it off. I drove an F1 car in anger for the first time at Suzuka[*], and I am looking forward to this next challenge. I want to do a professional job for the team and learn from the experience in a competitive car. After winning the GT championship for Nissan this year, it will be fun finding out what a race-winning Renault is like!"

Motoyama's test will be divided into two parts, comprising an afternoon's running on December 9 and a morning's work on December 10.

[*] Motoyama participated in the Friday morning 'Heathrow' test session on October 10, at the wheel of a Jordan-Ford.
