1994 Barber Pro Series veteran Juan Montoya threw down the gauntlet to visitors of Autosport International 2001 to beat his time on the Silverstone Kart Track. The 1999 CART FedEx Champion and 2000 Indy 500 winner put aside time early this weekend to accommodate eager fans in the preview days of the show. The quickest contestant received personal congratulations from Montoya before spending a day testing with the BMW WilliamsF1 Team.

The Colombian will make his F1 debut in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship this year, but has already generated impressive statistics with a victory in the 1998 FIA F3000 Championship, a ChampCar title and the Indy 500 win in his first career attempt.

For 2001, the Autosport International show at the NEC Birmingham promises to be one of the biggest and best ever. To that end, Barber Dodge will have its biggest European presence ever, stretching back to the mid-eighties when a show car was displayed at the Olympia in London. In addition to the Barber Dodge Reynard, a Formula Dodge R/T 2000 with a cut-away of the five-speed sequential gearbox will take center stage alongside its bigger, faster cousin. Also on hand will be more Barber Dodge representatives than ever before. Look for up to the minute reports direct from the show on skipbarber.com and barberdodge.com.

The Autosport International Show at the NEC Birmingham takes place on Jan. 11-14.
