Williams' Juan Pablo Montoya and Ferrari's Michael Schumacher have both been nominated for Laureus World Sports Awards, the prestigious cross-discipline awards which are the biggest in the world.

Montoya has been put forward for the World Newcomer of the Year after his impressive debut season with Williams last year, winning one race (Monza) and gaining three pole positions. Also in the category are Liverpool and England footballer Steven Gerrard and tennis player Kim Clijsters.

Schumacher has been nominated for the highest award on offer, the Sportsman of the Year. The four time world champion won last year's title with four races still to go and Ferrari also took the Constructors' title. Schumacher is up against golfer Tiger Woods, cyclist Lanc Armstrong and sprinter Maurice Green.
