Ferrari President Luca Montezemolo is delighted with his team's performance at the Brazilian Grand Prix yesterday and especially the performance of Michael Schumacher and the F2002, which was used for the first time ths year at the Interlagos circuit. After using last year's F2001 chassis for the first two races in Australia and Malaysia, Ferrai made the decision to take one new car to Brazil for Schumacher: a decision that paid off when he took victory in yesterday's race.

"It was a fantastic race; one of the best of the last few years," Montezemolo said. "Michael drove an unbelievable race and all the way the entire team worked was exceptional. I am very happy that the F2002 has won on its race debut, especially on a track which has never really suited Ferrari."

Montezemolo didn't forget the unlucky Rubens Barrichello, the Brazilian retiring from his eighth home race in a row. Barrichello was charging through the front of the field on a light fuel load, passing both Renualts and the Williams of Ralf Schumacher and going on to take the lead from team mate Michael. However, three laps later his car suffered hydraulic failure, leaving him stranded by the side of the track. "Rubens showed just what he is capable of (during his early race charge)," said Montezemolo, "behaving like the champion that he is."
