Tiago Monteiro drove a strong race in the Brazilian Grand Prix to finish 15th for the Spyker MF1 team. Following the team strategy, he had a good first part of the race but after his refuelling pit stop he had to slow down on two occasions to let the leaders go by, losing time accordingly.

"Overall it was a good race. I started with a heavy fuel load as our original strategy called for only one refueling stop. I started on the back row of the grid, and initially had to follow the Safety Car for six laps after Nico Rosberg's (Williams F1 Team) accident in Turn 14 on the opening lap."

"By mid-race I was running 13th but had not yet refueled. I was lapping in 1m 15.547s as race winner Felipe Massa was lapping in 1m 14.111s. On lap 39, I was up to 11th position and my Bridgestone tires were holding up well. I pitted then, and rejoined in 17th place, lapping in 1m 18.315s."

"But then when I received the blue flags to warn me of the approach of faster cars, I successively lost seven seconds or more on the two occasions I had to slow down to let them lap me. That was a shame because without that I could have gone quicker than both of the Toro Rosso drivers."

"I had a great race, though, and good fun fighting with my competitors. Overall I am pleased to have finished the race in a good position."

"My thanks to all at Team Spyker MF1 Racing. It was a great season with a team that encountered lots of changes. I am looking forward to continuing to work with a further rejuvenated team in 2007, and the new changes ahead of us are definitely refreshing my motivation."
