For the first time since the Heathrow testing session at Magny-Cours, Franck Montagny got behind the wheel of the R23B for a two day test session at Barcelona this week. It was an opportunity to get to know the Renault F1 Team even better.

On the day after his two days' testing on the Catalan circuit, Franck is feeling pleased. "I think the session went extremely well," he said. "I am really happy to have managed to get to the end without any difficulty. F1 is a world apart: everything must happen quickly, without any hitches. Everything must be perfect: your driving, your training, even your driving position. I think I managed to do a good job."

Franck hadn't been in the F1 car for two months. The last time was at the French Grand Prix... in the rain. "I was a little bit nervous, but everything came back to me immediately," he smiled. "I am beginning to get used to F1. It takes time to adapt to every different environment, and these two days with the time have helped me find my feet."

As for the work they did, it proved productive, with Franck working hard to give the team the best possible information on set-ups, tyres and engine mapping. "It wasn't just a run for fun," he said. "The team was looking for some very precise feedback, and there was no question of getting things half-right."

The days he has spent this year on the drag-strip at Santa Pod, England, shaking down the race chassis have also helped. "They have allowed me to get to know the car thoroughly, for example, which means I can feel comfortable in the car straight away at Barcelona," concludes Franck. "What's more, I know the test team very well now and that proved useful. I want another go!"
