Minardi Team Spa announced at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza that it has reached agreement with Ford Motor Company to officially support and supply the Team with VJ engines during the 1999 FIA Formula One World Championship season.

Ford will not only follow the normal development plan for the VJ engine but will also, on request from the Fondmetal Minardi Team engineers, supply customised modifications.

Fondmetal Minardi's commitment to competitiveness in Formula One is shown by its investment in all areas of its design and development programme. Many of the engine modifications will benefit from this investment and among the most important are a reduction in weight and the lowering of the crank centre line together with a new electronic package from Magneti Marelli.
