Minardi has finally signed a deal with tyre manufacturer Bridgestone after lengthy negotiations. Formerly with Michelin, Minardi and the French manufacturer ended their partnership last year and the team sought to do a deal with Bridgestone for 2003.

Discussions were delayed in January when Bridgestone refused to supply Minardi with tyres for testing, as contracts had yet to be finalized. The Faenza squad had to take to the track using Avon F3000 tyres. Now, however, a conclusion has been reached and Bridgestone will supply Minardi with tyres for the 2003 season.

The team released the following statement on February 17th:

"The Minardi Formula One Team today announces that it has concluded an agreement with Bridgestone for the supply of tyres in 2003. This renews an association that dates back to the Japanese tyre manufacturer's entry into Grand Prix racing, in 1997. The Faenza squad also has links with Bridgestone via newly signed Dutch driver, Jos Verstappen, who assisted with the test and development programme for the company's Formula One tyres during 1996."

"We're very pleased to have brought these negotiations to a satisfactory conclusion today," comments Minardi Team Principal, Paul Stoddart. "We now look forward to an excellent working relationship with our new tyre supplier, Bridgestone, during the coming season."
