It seems like the season is only just over but already teams are gearing up for winter work and one man who is sure to catch the attention is Michael Schumacher. The former seven time champion is scheduled to test this year's title-winning Ferrari F2007 at Barcelona next week.

Schumacher retired from racing at the end of the 2006 season but has remained involved with Ferrari as an advisor and attended several races with the team this season. He previously drove the F2007 at Fiorano in October but only for a few demonstration laps.

The German's spokesperson said that the Barcelona test was partly for pleasure and partly for technical purposes -- the regulations for 2008 have banned driver aids such as traction control and Schumacher has a wealth of previous experience of driving without them.

In the recent speculation about who will replace Fernando Alonso at McLaren even Schumacher's name cropped up as a possible for the vacant seat. It's one of the more unlikely rumours doing the rounds and Schumacher's spokesperson said he does not intend to return to racing.
