Seven drivers from four teams took to the track for testing in Barcelona today where McLaren test driver Alex Wurz topped the times. The Austrian set a fastest of 1:16.348 over 71 laps and was testing a hybrid version of the MP4-17. McLaren driver David Coulthard was second quickest, a couple of seconds behind.

The Williams testing duo of Marc Gene and Antonio Pizzonia were third and fourth respectively, followed by the Toyota test driver pair of Stephane Sarrazin and Ryan Briscoe. Gene was working on the new BMW engine and Pizonnia on general set-up.

"On the first day back at Barcelona since two weeks ago, we worked on a variety of system and component tests," said test team manager Tim Newton. "Marc put more miles on the new engine, and Antonio focused on general set-up for systems and components. There were a few delays, but that is to be expected when testing new developments"

At Toyota, Sarrazin was working on development of the TF102B chassis for durability and performance while Briscoe completed a data acquisition programme in the morning then some aerodynamic work in preparation for Suzuka. BAR test driver Ryo Fukuda rounded off the day's times.

At other circuits, Sauber's Felipe Massa continued at Mugello, working on aerodynamics and tyres, along with Ferrari tester Luca Badoer. Badoer continued a tyre and electronics programme while at Jerez, fellow Ferrari tester Luciano Burti also worked on Bridgestone tyres.
