Fernando Alonso will keep his British Grand Prix qualifying position following his McLaren team's tyre blunder.
The team was summoned by the stewards after having fitted one of Jenson Button's rear right tyres on Alonso's car during Q1.
McLaren said the mix-up happened after a double pitstop when Button was called to the weighbridge when the team was expecting him.
"What happened is we had a double pitstop with both cars, and a little bit of confusion coming," said Eric Boullier.
"Fernando passing Jenson, Jenson being stopped at the FIA scale, and one of the tyres of Jenson was put on Fernando's car."
The incident caused a breach to Article 25.4 of the sporting rules.
The stewards, however, have given McLaren a reprimand, and Alonso will start the race from 17th position.
