It was a quiet start to the week's testing at Valencia, Spain, where McLaren, Ferrari and BAR had one car apiece, all with test drivers behind the wheel. Conditions were cool and initially cloudy, clearing later in the day.

McLaren's Pedro de la Rosa set the best time, 1:10.124, to kick off the team's four-day test at the circuit. The Spaniard will continue tomorrow and fellow tester Alex Wurz is scheduled for the final two days.

Luca Badoer was on duty for Ferrari and was second quickest in the F2003-GA. Badoer worked on Bridgestone tyres and will continue tomorrow, when race driver Rubens Barrichello will also join the test.

BAR tester Anthony Davidson was the third driver present, working in the '04 concept car. He will undertake the on-track duties for all four of BAR's scheduled days, finishing with a wet tyre test for Michelin on Friday. Davidson set 124 laps on Tuesday, the most of the day.
