Matteo Bobbi, the official test driver for the Minardi F1 team, will also be committed to the FIA GT 2003 championship. Matteo Bobbi will be behind the steering wheel of a Ferrari 550 Maranello for the BMS Scuderia Italia race team.
The young driver from Milan, has reached an agreement with BMS Scuderia Italia that will allow him to face a new challenge. That is, to race for the first time ever in a stock car (covered wheel) category. This new commitment will not conflict with his role as the Minardi test driver. On the contrary, this experience with allow him to grow professionally.
I'm honoured to be part of a prestigious team that has a rich history like BMS Scuderia Italia and to drive a Ferrari 550 Maranello car. I know some of the tracks that FIA GT 2003 championship races on. I have nothing left to do except to gain as much experience as possible seeing that it I have never driven this type of car before and to repay the team for the trust they have in me.
Giovanni Minardi: Matteo's sport manager
I'm very happy with the agreement reached for this racing season. I believe that the FIA GT 2003 championship is the perfect training camp for Matteo and that BMS Scuderia Italia is a very successful team. I'm sure that Matteo will have good results in this category and will gain significant experience as the Minardi test driver as well. I think that this season can be Matteo's springboard for success in 2004.
