FAENZA, ITALY, November 28, 2001 -- Argentine driver, Martin Basso, today visited the Minardi factory in Faenza following a successful run at the nearby Santa Monica Circuit (Misano), where he established a new Formula 3000 lap record for the track while testing for the GP Racing team.
The 27-year old, from Rafaela, Santa Fe, is currently examining European motor racing options following two successful seasons in the North American-based Toyota Atlantic Series. While in Faenza, he toured the Minardi Formula One factory and met with team founder, Gian Carlo Minardi.
"I have heard good reports about Martin and the positive outcome of the Misano test has confirmed this. We extended an invitation for him to visit the factory in order to talk about his present and future career." commented Gian Carlo Minardi.
Basso, who hopes to compete in the European F3000 Championship next season, was impressed with his visit to Minardi's Faenza headquarters. "Everyone who is involved in motor racing and has aspirations to move to the top levels knows that you must go to Europe to further your career because that is where the competition is most fierce. After my test with GP Racing, I was pleased to visit the factory and enjoyed very much the chance to meet with Gian Carlo. He is a man with great experience of motor racing and has also assisted the careers of young drivers, so it was very interesting to chat with him. I would be delighted to compete in Europe this coming season."
