Marussia F1 Team took the covers off their 2013 challenger this morning at Circuito de Jerez. They will take to the track with the other Formula One teams who have gathered in Spain for the first preseason test days.
The MR02 is powered by Cosworth, and the team truly is still developing which they admit to also, yet at the same time, they felt that the 2012 MR01 was a success. Indeed it was especially in the later part of their third season. Now as they enter season number four, Team Principal John Booth commented: “We embark on the first pre-season test of 2013 feeling very positive about our new car - the MR02 - and what lies ahead in this next important chapter in the development of the Marussia F1 Team.”
Viewing the first photos, one will notice the new sidepods, and they also made changes to the exhaust and the front and rear suspension. Booth added, “Whilst we have experienced some changes over the winter, the one area of stability we have enjoyed is the one that is most important to our progression from here, the design of our 2013 race car, led by our Technical Director Pat Symonds.”
Team driver Max Chilton will start his official Formula One career as he takes the MR02 out for its first proper shakedown. The preseason first test days will not just be vital for the Briton but also for the team. “It is early days in our pre-season development programme but there is a great deal of optimism amongst the Team for what lies ahead. With that in mind, we all look forward to seeing the MR02 make its on-track debut later this morning,” said Booth.
