After five crashes in 2012 alone, Williams F1 driver Pastor Maldonado is coming under heavy fire from motorsports followers for his alarming propensity to put himself - and others - in harm's way on the race track.

This story earlier this week details Maldonado's 2012 exploits and claims that his recklessness has cost him 45 championship points in lost finishes. Unfortunately, for him, 2012 is not the first year where Maldonado has been involved in some hair-raising incidents.

Take a look at these videos and decide for yourself. This first video is particularly scary as Pastor Maldonado crashes under Red Flag conditions and nearly hits two flag marshalls. A sharp Motorsport.com viewer informed us that this crash is from Maldonado's very first World Series by Renault event at Zolder. Nasty no matter what the series!

Although to be fair, when he showed in scoring the victory in Spain, when Maldonado is good, he is very very good. Click here to see an interview of Pastor Maldonado and Frank William after the win that put Williams back in victory lane

Do you think he should be in F1? What is an appropriate penalty for his next collision? Leave us your thoughts in the comments.
