Jean Alesi:
"It is in every aspect a "new generation" circuit as it had just been finished when we came last year. The 99 Malaysian Grand Prix was a bit of a rush for the organisers, and some aspects were not completely ready. On the contrary, I have been very impressed this year by the completion of the smallest details, for example, the kerbs have been modified to drain the water in case of showers, which are frequent and very strong in this season in Malaysia.

The trees and plants have grown a lot and it is now a very beautiful place. As a driver, you feel very safe on this track, with wide run-off areas and the possibility of overtaking. The only difficult point is to handle the temperature and humidity, which are very demanding for cars and drivers. Overall, it is a very nice circuit, and I want to thank and congratulate Philippe Gurdjian, exclusive consultant in the organization of the Malaysian Grand Prix, for the outstanding work he has done here."
