Ferrari have been disqualified from the Malaysian Grand Prix. As a result, McLaren and Mika Hakkinen are champions for 1999.

Rather unusually, Ferrari have admitted that the panels did not conform with the regulations, but are appealing, claiming that a manufacturer must have made them wrong, and there was no advantage with the illegal parts.

Claudio Berro, the press officer for Ferrari, said "We checked the parts, whether it conformed to the rules. It is possible the manufacturer does not conform."

A separate quote elsewhere says "We need to check the technical situation. We checked if the parts conformed but it's too early to give an explanation".

The appeal will be heard next week in Geneva.
