Toro Rosso driver Kvyat crashed into Magnussen at La Rascasse as he tried to unlap himself, after the Dane had made contact with the wall a few corners earlier.

The clash later forced Magnussen into retirement, and earned Kvyat a three-place grid penalty for the Canadian Grand Prix.

Kvyat insisted after the race that he thought Magnussen was to blame.

"We were racing, he blocked me twice pretty strongly two corners before and we touched," Kvyat said.

"Next corner I tried to go on the inside again and he just blocks you completely, you know. I couldn't go through the walls, so I had to go through him."

Magnussen, however, was critical of the Russian.

"I had a good start to the race, and we made a really good call to pit straight after the safety car," said Magnussen.

"We were the only ones to do that, but it was the right decision and I was really happy with that, and the team did a good job with that.

"And then after we got ou,t we were in a good position, and Kvyat lost his mind.

"Unfortunately we crashed and that was effectively the end of my race. After that we were several laps down and we decided to retire."

Magnussen believes the accident cost him the chance of a strong result after being the first to switch to intermediates just before the safety car was deployed.

"I think a lot of people were yet to pit so we would have gained a lot of positions.

"I just know he hit me in the back. He just ran over me. Very annoying, because I think we were in a good position to fight for points."
