Mild Seven Benetton Team Luxembourg GP / Preview _________________________________________________________________ Pat Symonds, Technical Director of the Mild Seven Benetton Playlife team: THE CIRCUIT:
"Eventhough it is nothing like the old Nurburgring for a modern circuit it is quite interesting. There is some altitude due to the location in the Eifel Mountains so there is slightly lower air pressure which affects our engine and our aerodynamics. The circuit has some very slow hairpins and some quick corners and you need a car with a good change of direction for the chicanes. It is not an untypical circuit by modern standards but is certainly one of the better ones." OTHER FACTORS:
"One of the major problems is the weather. Although last year it was untypically warm, it is more usual for it to be cold, foggy, wet and even freezing at night. It is therefore very important to get the tyres working well on what is generally a very cold circuit." THE CARS:
"The cars return to a much higher downforce configuration than we had in Monza, but will still retain the new bodywork and the basis of the new front wing system that we introduced at the last race. This has been found to work in both high and low downforce configurations." TESTING:
"Testing this week has been at Magny Cours. We have had a look at some of the tyre compounds we might run at Nurburgring and also on the general set-up of the car. At this stage in the season we are not working on any new parts for introduction in the next two races, so the work in testing has been relatively routine." THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP:
"With such a critical position in the constructors' championship, a lot of our focus has been on making the best use of what is available at the moment and ensuring reliability is high. It is a very tight situation for third place, and we feel that with the correct tyre choice and good reliability we are more than capable of finishing in third place in the world championship."
