Jean Alesi: Today we did not have a good set-up for this circuit, and I spent my time struggling to find a good balance. What started as severe oversteer initially, became understeerr later on. It was a nightmare! During my second run on a new set of tyress this afternoon I spun, and that was the end of my session.

Johnny Herbert: Initially we struggled to achieve balanced handling, but after changing the set-up during the break we managed an improvement. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to go quicker because on my next run I had an engine problem.

The main drawback today was lack of overall grip. The direction in which we took the set-up made the car more stable, however, and will allow us to improve tomorrorw, but we have a lot of hard work ahead.

Peter Sauber: In addition to our mishaps today, we couldn't find the optimum set-up for Suzuka. We were particularly surprised to encounter such a severe change in balance on Jean's car when we switched to the second set of similar tyres.
