The Jaguar Racing R4 received its first shakedown at the team's private testing facility at Lommel today (Friday) with new driver Mark Webber behind the wheel.

Webber enjoyed a trouble free day conducting a series of straight line tests in preparation for the car's first public shake down at the Circuit de Catalunya next Tuesday.

"It's been a very encouraging platform with which to begin the R4 development programme," commented Jaguar Racing spokesman, Nav Sidhu. "The straight line testing at Lommel ran faultlessly today and Mark completed his mileage without any problems whatsoever."

It is a positive start for the team but the tests leading up to the Australian Grand Prix will provide the acid test of where the team is when it arrives in Melbourne.

"Everybody here is in very upbeat mood and we have valuable data with which to take to Barcelona next week. We must not forget, however, that today has been nothing more than a first day shakedown for the Jaguar R4."

Today's test will provide footage for the team's 'virtual' launch, also scheduled for next Tuesday.
