Jaguar Racing is to make employee redundancies due to the slump in the economy and the team is expecting difficult times ahead. Jaguar spokesman Nav Sidhu said the redundancies are a preventive measure rather than due to any financial problems at the current time. All departments of the team will come under scrutiny as it's decided where the cutbacks will be most effective.

"We are undertaking an evaluation of all departments at Jaguar Racing to help the team achieve the best possible results," Sidhu told Autosport. "The net effect will be a reduction in the overall headcount."

"Several F1 teams this year have experienced problems and we want to avoid taking corrective action too late. We haven't lost a principal sponsor, we have not lost the commitment from Ford, in fact it is quite the opposite. But we are expecting difficult times. There is no sign of an upturn in the world economy."

Some teams have struggled to continue in F1 this season: since the demise of Prost Grand Prix there has been worry that more will go the same way. Jordan made cut backs earlier this year and it's still yet to be known if Arrows will survive its current financial crisis. Jaguar has already made savings by exchanging Eddie Irvine and Pedro de la Rosa for the undoubtedly cheaper Mark Webber and Antonio Pizzonia.
