IMS Tower Terrace Stands to be Removed For Construction of Formula One Garages

WHAT: Bovis Construction Corp., in conjunction with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, will begin demolition of sections 1 through 25 of the Tower Terrace stands, making way for 36 pitside garages and suites for the U.S. Grand Prix at Indianapolis. The removal process will last approximately two months. Temporary stands will be installed for both the Indianapolis 500 and the Brickyard 400 in 1999. The configuration of the temporary seating will be identical to that of the Tower Terrace -- each section, row, seat and view will remain exactly the same as in past years.

WHEN: Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, 11 a.m.

WHERE: Indianapolis Motor Speedway

BACKGROUND: The Tower Terrace stands were first built for the 1957 Indianapolis 500 along with the Control Tower, a new pit area and a fourth tunnel under the backstretch.
