The cost of the Hungaroring's hosting rights for its Formula One race increased since the 2008 event, the financial daily Napi Gazdasag reports.

The newspaper said that while the fee for the 2008 Hungarian Grand Prix was 12 million euros, it increased by more than 3.5m before the circus converged on the Budapest venue for this weekend's race.

The government reportedly only agreed to the price increase two weeks ago, even though spectator numbers this weekend are expected to be lower than last season's event.
