Lewis Hamilton will have the support of the nation on Sunday (7 October) when he'll be going all out to win the Chinese Grand Prix and be crowned 2007 FIA Formula 1 World Champion. One person who will be watching with particular interest is the last British driver to hold the title of F1 World Champion -- BRDC President, Damon Hill.
Damon will be joining a select number of fans at Silverstone on Sunday, where circuit bosses have planned a private screening of the Chinese Grand Prix in the BRDC Clubhouse. The former World Champion will join an exclusive guest list made up fans* who have already booked their tickets for next year's British Grand Prix (4-6 July), Lewis Hamilton fans and several children from one of Hamilton's former schools.
Damon Hill, President of the BRDC and last British driver to win the Formula 1 World Championship in 1996, commented: "I imagine most of the UK will be up early to watch Lewis on Sunday. I'll be watching the race in the BRDC Clubhouse at Silverstone. The circuit has organised a private screening for a number of fans who have already bought their tickets for next year's British Grand Prix, so we'll all be watching it together. It's the perfect place to watch the race and hopefully we'll be celebrating a new British World Champion come nine o'clock."
"The whole country is behind Lewis and it would be fantastic if he clinches the title on Sunday. Formula 1, motorsport, the British Grand Prix -- it's what we do best in Britain. We are world leaders. The next step is for us to provide the fans and Lewis with a venue they can be proud of. We are on the cusp of negotiating and securing a new deal for the British Grand Prix - we need to ensure Lewis and other British drivers have a long term platform to perform on."
"Whether Lewis is crowned World Champion or not, and I'm confident he will, we want to put on a huge home-coming for him at next year's British Grand Prix on 6 July. The best way fans can express their support for Lewis and the British Grand Prix is by voting with their feet and buying their tickets for what could be his first home race as world champion. This will help us to achieve our goal of having a fantastic Grand Prix -- not just next year, for several years to come."
