Lewis Hamilton Feature Tops the Karting Show at Autosport International

The Karting Show at Autosport International, 10-13 January 2008, will honour Britain's Formula One sensation Lewis Hamilton in his first dedicated feature at the world's biggest motorsport show, NEC, Birmingham. The Lewis Hamilton Feature will demonstrate how this remarkable 22-year-old has launched himself to the pinnacle of the sport, from karting and through the formulas to a record-breaking inaugural Formula One season.

Lewis Hamilton is one of the most notable karting graduates from the ranks of the McLaren Mercedes Champions of the Future series, now known as the BRDC Stars of Tomorrow championship, of which Lewis is still Patron. "BRDC Stars of Tomorrow is definitely one of the best championships in karting, not only in terms of a series for racing, but also for grooming young drivers to help them progress further in the sport," commented Lewis.

"Competing in the championship was an integral part of my career and I would not be where I am today had I not participated in it. It gives you excellent coverage, all the top drivers of your age are there and you are able to learn a lot. Moreover, the support from the people who run the series is fantastic. Their support and dedication is vital, and was certainly important in my career."

BRDC Stars of Tomorrow Championship Director Carolynn Hoy is assisting show organisers Haymarket Exhibitions in to pulling together the first Lewis Hamilton Feature. Ian France, Autosport International Event Presenter, said: "We are investing more space than ever before for this special Karts to Cars feature. Lewis has always been a regular supporter of karting at Autosport International and so we naturally wanted to dedicate this feature in his honour and hopefully encourage more people, young and old, into the sport as a result."

Just 11 years before so nearly winning the 2007 FIA Formula One World Championship, Hamilton won the MSA British Cadet Championship in the then named McLaren Mercedes Champions of the Future series, aged 11. His Cadet title winning kart will be on display alongside his 1997 Junior Yamaha championship clinching kart, 1998 Junior ICA kart, not to mention his 2000 Formula A World Kart Champion machine.

From karts, Hamilton progressed to UK Formula Renault at the age of 16 and took the championship crown two years later with a dominant 10 wins. The 2003-winning car is set to feature in addition to his 2005 Formula 3 Euro Series championship winning chariot.

A natural champion in every category in which he has raced, it is no surprise Britain's top current Formula One driver also claimed the spoils in his inaugural season in GP2 in 2006, and the car in which he clinched five victories on his way to the title will be on display.

The pinnacle of the Lewis Hamilton Feature will be a Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Formula One car in which the 22-year-old has captured the hearts and minds of the British public, and raised the profile of karting as a sport beyond belief.
