Hamilton: Safety car finish an anti-climax

Hamilton, who won his second race of the season in China, was disappointed that the race finished under safety car conditions due to Max Verstappen's engine failure on the main straight two laps from the end.

However, the reigning World Champion also added that the caution was the right decision.

"The safety car wasn't helpful for anyone," he said.

"It's an anti-climax when you have a good race. But as long as no one was injured and all the cars got back safely, that's all that matters."

Hamilton added that the dominant win was the perfect comeback after being beaten by Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari in Malaysia.

"The team have been doing fantastic job. We have upped our pace and improved, so I'm massively proud and happy we got the job done today."

Nothing more Rosberg could do

Rosberg, meanwhile, conceded that there was nothing more he could have done in the fight against his teammate, and that second was the best he could manage.

"That's the way it is," said the German.

"I gave it everything. I tried to close the gap to Lewis, took some risks, but it didn't pay off.

"We are happy with the gap to Ferrari after they beat us in Malaysia, it is important for the team, a good comeback."

Prime tyre pace the difference for Vettel

According to Vettel, it was Mercedes' prime tyre pace that made the difference in Shanghai.

"I think it was a good race all in all," he said.

"We were a bit closer [to Mercedes] on the soft compound, and we tried to put more pressure by stopping early of the last set of tyres.

"But on the harder tyre they were that bit too quick.

"It's been three out of three [podiums]. That feels pretty good. Big change over the winter, a lot has changed, but I feel happy in the team.

"Hopefully we can get a bit closer to challenge [Mercedes]."
