Hamilton leads Mercedes 1-2 in Malaysia

Lewis Hamilton got a great jump on the field off the line, and never looked back winning the Malaysian Grand Prix from team mate Nico Rosberg and Sebastian Vettel.

It was the first time the team has had a 1-2 finish since the Italian GP in 1959.

The Mercedes driver maintained a healthy lead around ten seconds, while presumably dialling back the power unit to ensure its reliability heading to the next event.

"I feel so grateful. And particularly after such a tragedy three weeks ago, I would like to dedicate this to those families," Hamilton said after the win.

"The team was spot on for pitstops. What a great car, what a great job from everyone."

Vettel spend much of the race chasing Nico Rosberg, within reach but would end up third unable to get past the strong Mercedes cars.

"It's like he (Rosberg) found another gear. At the end I was just trying to take the car home. All in all it was good to get another podium after Daniel's in Australia. Those guys are bloody quick," Vettel said on the podium.

"I got a great start, that allowed me to get into second place," said Rosberg. "I was trying to chase Lewis, he was a bit too quick today

Vettel's team mate Daniel Ricciardo had a great event, until the 41st lap when he was released with a loose wheel in the pit lane. He stopped, and the team backed his car down back to the stall to finish changing the left front wheel.

Only three laps later, he suffered a front wing failure, sending him back to pit lane again.

The Williams pairing ended up 7th and 8th, and after the television coverage featured the team asking Massa to let Bottas by with 3 laps to go, Massa decided to fight and finish 7th, not allowing his team mate past.

Fernando Alonso was the only Ferrari in the running after Kimi Raikkonen suffered a puncture and limped the car around for most of a lap, sending him to a 12th place finish. Alonso finished fourth, 35 seconds behind the race winner.

Nico Hulkenberg in his Force India had a great run, taking the fifth spot, beating both McLaren Mercedes entries of Jensen Button, who finished 6th, and Kevin Magnussen, 9th with a slow pit stop towards the end of the event.

Sergio Perez was the first car out of the race, before it event started as the team ran into software issues with the car. Perez admitted during an interview during the race that seeing his team mate's performance, ending up fifth, the DNS hurts even more.

Cars not classified at the finish included Ricciardo , both Sauber's of Adrian Sutil and Esteban Gutierrez. Pastor Maldonado and Jules Bianchi made contact on the frist lap sending those drivers back to the garage early.
