11 more hopefuls gun for Grand Prix Shootout success

The race to find a future F1 star continued this week with 11 more young hopefuls attending the latest Grand Prix Shootout event on Tuesday and Wednesday (September 8/9).

Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground once again provided the setting for some of junior motorsport's brightest stars to show off their skills at the wheel of Fiat's new Abarth 500. Legendary driver coach to the stars Rob Wilson, as well as A1GP Team GB drivers Robbie Kerr and Danny Watts, put the hotshots through their paces, while former IRL champion and Indy 500 winner Kenny Brack, not to mention USF1 chief Peter Windsor, were on hand to offer the drivers additional helpful advice.

Among those attempting to claim their seat in the final were reigning British Formula Renault UK champion Adam Christodoulou, A1GP Team Ireland rookie Niall Quinn, Grand-AM regular Dion von Moltke and Skip Barber ace Filipe Polehtto, as well as a host of top UK karters.

The nine most promising candidates from across each Shootout round will be invited to the final at Pembrey race circuit on November 23-25 where they will test a Raikkonen Roberston Racing-prepared Formula BMW Europe single seater. The driver who then demonstrates the greatest talent over those three days will be rewarded with a fully-paid drive in the F1-support series next season.

Grand Prix Shootout Managing Director David Fleming said, "Once again we've had a fantastic turnout and a great day. All the young hopefuls showed a great deal of promise, although we won't know if any have made it into the final nine until cross-referencing notes. The scheme is going from strength-to-strength and I can't wait until the next event, which looks like being just as talent-packed. The final promises to be incredible! Finally, a big thanks to Rob who called on his old pupil Kenny Brack to help the guys get the most out of their day."

The next Grand Prix Shootout round takes place on September 22/23 at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground.
