Williams drivers Juan Pablo Montoya and Ralf Schumacher have spoken in support of former team test driver Antonio Pizzonia, saying Jaguar needs to give him more time. Pizzonia's position is under threat due to his erratic performances this year and Jaguar is 'alarmed' at the difference between him and team-mate Mark Webber.

Montoya blames Jaguar for not giving Pizzonia enough support, which he thinks is typical of the team: "You've got to give the guy some time," he said according to AFP. "He's not even had enough time to learn how everything works and already they're trying to sack him."

"They don't have the right people to guide him, to tell him what to do. He needs quite a bit of support because if he loses his mental battle then he is done for. When you are down mentally then physically you're not going to do your best job. It's sad to say, but it's typical Jaguar. It's not the first time they've done it. The guy tested with us and he was very quick. What they are doing is wrong."

Webber has impressed many with his performances this year but as Montoya points out, the Australian has more experience than Pizzonia. "I saw him (Pizzonia) today and told him he needs to stop thinking about Webber and concentrate on making his car quicker. Webber is in his second year, and he's probably not having as many worries as Antonio. Mentally he's doing a better job putting the things together and I think that's been hard for Antonio."

Schumacher agrees, for once, with Montoya that Pizzonia needs time and is sure he will settle down and produce results. "I'm surprised that he gets so much under pressure," said Ralf. "I'm sure they should give him more time, definitely. He's new to Formula One, but he showed with us that he's quick and I must say that I'm pretty sure that if gets the time and if he settles down a bit and concentrates on his job he will eventually do his job."

"He will be very quick, he is quick. Maybe in testing he was just a little bit slower than Juan and myself, but still very quick. He is a great talent but he just needs more time."
