According to Teletext, Bernie Ecclestone has said that South Africa will return to the F1 fold "as soon as we have a slot open on the Formula One calendar". Teletext says that this is 2001.

Heinz-Harald Frentzen has left hospital. He suffered with diarrhoea, vomiting and shivering spasms and received intravenous drips to try to maintain his strength before the race, according to Teletext. Frentzen is to stay with his family in the run up to the Belgian Grand Prix.
