Fisichella: ready for action
Giancarlo Fisichella describes a lap of the Magny-Cours circuit ahead of this weekend's French Grand Prix:
"The lap of Magny-Cours starts with the very fast left-hand corner, which I will be apexing over 270km/h in fifth gear and pulling very high G. This is followed by the long right-hand Estoril corner, taken in fouth gear and I will apex at 185km/h. Throughout this corner I am trying to look after the tyres as they take extreme loading all the way through this corner. I also need to get a very good exit as the corner leads onto the main straight, the end of which is the only over-taking opportunity on the circuit.
"At the end of this straight I will then be reaching nearly 300km/h in top gear and then experiencing very heavy braking right down to 55km/h and into first gear for the hairpin. At the exit of the hairpin, even with traction control, I will be trying to maximise my acceleration out of the corner as I head towards the first of the two fast chicanes.
"I will be approaching at around 280km/h in top gear, dropping down to fifth gear and reducing my speed to 220km/h for this fast right-left chicane. Immediately after this I need to brake again down to 80km/h in second gear for the tight left-hand corner. As I come out of this corner the circuit is almost a repeat of the previous part, again reaching 280km/h in top gear before entering the second of the fast chicanes.
"I will take this in fourth gear as although the first part, which is right-handed, is taken at around 220km/h, yet again I need to reduce my speed to around 210km/h for the second left-hand part. Once more in a similar way to the earlier part of the circuit, as soon as I exit this fast chicane I need to be on the brakes and get down to around 90km/h in second gear for the tight right-hand corner. I will accelerate out of this corner reaching 260km/h before braking once again for the final chicane.
"I will be able to enter the first part at around 130km/h but then in the middle of this two-part corner I need to bring my speed down to around 110km/h for the second left-hand part. This will lead me into the final corner - a very tight right-hand first gear corner, which I will take at around 65km/h. As the start/finish line is right on the exit of this corner, the exit becomes of paramount importance, but I will always be mindful of the proximity of the pit wall as I try and get on the power."
