The three drivers who contravened the regulations by running more than the permitted sets of wet tyres in Friday's morning practice session have escaped any grid demotion or time penalties. McLaren's Lewis Hamilton, Honda's Jenson Button and Super Aguri's Takuma Sato all used two sets of wet tyres when the rules permit only one.

Stewards at Brazil's Interlagos circuit investigated the matter and as a result the teams involved have been fined €15,000 and will have to hand over the partially used set of tyres to the FIA in order that they can't gain any possible advantage from an already scrubbed set of rubber.

McLaren boss Ron Dennis said it was simply a mistake by the team and it did not give Hamilton any advantage. The Briton, who heads into Sunday's title-deciding race with a four point lead in the standings over teammate Fernando Alonso, finished the session in fifth place, while Button was 12th and Sato 14th.
