Scuderia Ferrari presented their new Formula One challenger today and even team boss Stefano Domenicali understood the comments last year and is very pleased with the new F138. They also used a “vanity panel “ on the nose but not just due to vanity but for performance reasons. "We wanted to go in that direction because the whole project is to improve performance in that area," Domenicali "And it is more beautiful!"
“The key objective that we must have is of immediately delivering a competitive car to our drivers," he added. "Unfortunately in recent years we have at the beginning of the winter unfortunately not been able to be right on top of what we are doing.”
This year’s car name and number is a combination of the current year plus a tribute to the V8 engines that will not be utilized in 2014.
Even though last year’s car was not stunning, Fernando Alonso was in the title fight to the end; losing the championship to Sebastien Vettel by a mere three points.
Alonso said, "The difference at the front is just tenths," said Alonso, "tenths you cannot see by looking at the car. Sometimes you don't know why a particular car holds sway. We need to get on track and really see how competitive it is."
Ferrari and their drivers will know more next week during the first preseason testing; however Alonso will not be present in Jerez as Felipe Massa will take the new car for its shakedown.
