Ferrari has confirmed that it has signed Marc Gené as test driver, effectively immediately. Gené previously raced for Minardi, then joined Williams as test driver in 2001. He stood in for the injured Ralf Schumacher for two races in 2005, then was replaced by Antonio Pizzonia.

"Ferrari announces that it has signed an agreement with the driver Marc Gené who will join Scuderia Ferrari as from today (November 22nd), for the 2005 race season, as a test driver, working alongside test driver Luca Badoer," said a brief statement from the Maranello squad.

Gené was reportedly disillusioned with Williams after Pizzonia took over racing duties. Pizzonia is currently the favourite to fill the vacant race seat at Williams -- Gené did not appear to be under consideration at all, so went looking for pastures new.
