Ferrari has appointed former Renault man John Iley as Head of Aerodynamics. The newly created position gives Iley overall responsibility of the aerodynamics programme and he will report to designer Rory Byrne.

Iley held a similar position at Renault under technical director Mike Gascoyne, with whom he previously worked with at Jordan. Gascoyne has also left Renault, moving to Toyota for 2004.

This year's Renault R23 was well regarded for its aerodynamics and Gascoyne said at the beginning of the season the chassis was expected to show an increase in efficiency in that department of around 15% from 2002.

It seems that target was achieved as Fernando Alonso scored Renault's first pole position and first win this season since the marque returned to F1 as a fully fledged team.
