Tobacco threat to BAR lifted

The Australian government has denied speculation that they will object to BAR's dual livery. A spokesman for the Health Miniser said "Under the exemption we gave F1 for the cars, cigarette advertising of any kind is permissible".

Two teams fail crash tests

Two teams have yet to pass the mandatory FIA crash test. 9 teams have confirmed they have passed, but BAR, Benetton and Arrows have yet to do so. The crash test has to be passed before practice starts on Friday.

Arrows still after Diniz's money

Arrows are continuing their action against Pedro Diniz, despite a ruling from the Contracts Recognition Board saying they have no claim on the driver. The team has put out a statement to the press:

"The CRB's decision in no way determines the outcome of the legal action against Pedro Diniz. Its role is to resolve questions concerning registration of driver contracts with the FIA". How this differs from what the team wants is unclear and could bring the team into conflict with the FIA. A similar action disputing the authority of the FIA between the the FIA and BAR has led to the team being called to answer charges of bringing the sport into disrepute.

FIA threatens teams about flexible friends

The FIA has put out a warning to the teams entered in the FIA Formula One championship warning them that they face race bans and other punitive action if any team is found using them. The FIA has asked the teams to come up with a test for the wings.

Arrows releases Salo - 'at his request'

The Arrows team have announced this morning that Mika Salo has been released from his contract with the team. Arrows have stressed that this was at the request of Mika Salo, and not management pushing him out. It has, however, been known for some time that members of management within the team wanted him replaced. Tora "Tiger" Takagi has been confirmed as a driver for the team. Tora brings sponsorship with him from PIAA, who previously supported him at Tyrrell. -- Stephen M Baines
