Sauber signs Rinland

Sergio Rinland, ex of BMS Scuderia Italia, Brabham, Tyrrell, Benetton and Ferrari, has joined PP Sauber. He is to be chief designer alongside technical director Leo Ress. Willy Rampf has also joined as chief race engineer.

Castrol for increased Williams support?

It has been announced that BMW and Burmah Castrol have entered into a 5 year global partnership. Burmah Castrol and BMW will collaborate on research and development of lubricants, and all BMW card and bikes will be filled with Castrol oil at the factory.

Castrol currently sponsor the WilliamsF1 team, and it had been thought that Total Fina would be a major sponsor of WilliamsF1 in 2000. This new deal with BMW suggests a stronger presence for Castrol on the Williams' next year. -- Stephen M Baines
