Free practice was productive for DHL Jordan Honda today, with both drivers making good progress on qualifying and race set-up. Giancarlo Fisichella experienced no problems with his EJ12, and although Takuma Sato lost 20 minutes of running time after an electrical failure forced him to stop on the track at the end of the first session, he was mostly satisfied with the car's balance.
"We were in good shape early on but near the end of the session I lost all power and had to stop on the track, probably at the furthest point from the pit lane. The last ten minutes of the first session were lost while I got back to the garage and also I lost the first ten minutes of the second session while the team finished the repairs. We have been improving the set-up step by step and there is still work for tomorrow."
"But I found the circuit okay and the car feels alright, so I'm generally happy. It is very interesting to drive in Formula One at Nürburgring, as last time I was here was in Formula Opel in 1998. The changes to the first part of the circuit are excellent, as I think there are more opportunities for overtaking, which is quite exciting."
"Not a bad day, considering I was running with lots of fuel and didn't do a single lap on low fuel. We had no problems at all with the car, which is very important. There is still work to do in finding the best set-up, as at the moment we have a lot of understeer in slow corners and graining with new tyres. It will be difficult to be in the top ten but that is our target. I don't like the changes to the circuit as it makes everything too slow."
GARY ANDERSON, DIRECTOR OF RACE AND TEST ENGINEERING
"That was not too bad, although the car has a bit of understeer which makes the tyres grain. We have been able to do the work required to try and understand the car for qualifying and the race. Our focus was on race work, but a lot of people seemed to be running with lower fuel. As always, we've got work to do but no dramas."
The T car is set up for Takuma Sato for tomorrow's qualifying.
