Tomas Enge has quit Formula One to return to F3000. Enge replaced Luciano Burti at Prost towards the end of last season after Burti crashed heavily at Spa-Francorchamps and was advised to sit out the rest of the season.

Enge was the first ever Czech Formula One driver, but with the future of Prost uncertain he has opted to return to F3000 in 2002 with the Arden International team. In 2001 he finished third in the series with Coca-Cola Nordic Racing and is a favourite to win the title this season.

With Enge out of the running for a seat at Prost it's possible Mark Webber could be in line for the drive, although Alain Prost has said that if he gets his new backing he would like to run a French driver - test drivers Stephane Sarrazin and Jonathan Cochet could both be candidates.

Prost have confirmed that they will run with Ferrari engines in 2002 providing they survive the January 15th deadline set by the team's legal administrator.
