Jaguar driver Eddie Irvine has withdrawn from this weekend's Austriann Grand Prix, with a suspected case of severe appendicitis.

Irvine had been feeling abdominal pains since his arrival on Thursday, and, as they began to get worse, visited the track's medical center. The doctors advised him to return to England in order to consult with a specialist.

Irvine has now returned to London, and will be receiving an opinion from Professor Williams, a highly regarded London surgeon.

As Irvine withdrew prior to the qualifying session at the A-1 Ring, Jaguar was able to subsitute a driver for the remainder of the race weekend.

As a result, Jaguar test driver Luciano Burti will be stepping into Irvine's car for his first Formula One race on Sunday. Burti does, however, have extensive testing experience in the Jaguar on a variety of circuits.
