The F1 circus has rolled up at the Hungaroring, along with all the usual speculation and gossip. Two drivers who were keeping well clear of it on Thursday were McLaren's Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton. Alonso was scheduled to appear at the official press conference but was permitted to miss it after McLaren made a request to the FIA.

Hamilton was also absent from team's usual press meeting and although McLaren has not given a statement about the reason, it's widely believed it's in order to spare the drivers any unwanted questioning about the current Ferrari/McLaren 'spy' saga. The matter has become very tense, with the claims and accusations escalating.

Meanwhile, it's reported that Sebastian Vettel has been confirmed to race for Toro Rosso in 2008. Vettel, who debuted with BMW in America and scored one point, takes over the Toro Rosso race seat from Scott Speed this weekend and for the remainder of this season. Team boss Franz Tost claims that Speed was let go due to his progress not being as expected, not because of the row after the European GP.

BMW racer Nick Heidfeld will have to wait a little longer before talks conclude about his seat for next year. Motorsport director Mario Thiessen told reporters that they were in "positive discussions" but no announcement is imminent this weekend. "It will probably be after the summer break," he commented. With Vettel off to Toro Rosso it's thought that BMW will retain Heidfeld and Robert Kubica.
